January topic - New year, new me?

I have decided that on the last Friday of each month of the year I'm am going to write about a certain topic. It could be something I have been through that month or something I have viewed a lot of people talking about or has been brought to my attention, I am going to talk about it and get my thoughts out.  This is something I really want to stick to and for it to be a monthly post people will recognise so if you have any suggestions for example if you need advice or feel like it would be good advice for everyone out there reading it on a certain topic, drop me an email and I will see where I can fit it in. These won't always be short posts and will probably contain a fair amount of writing, but sometimes it's nice to read someones thoughts and see if you can relate to them, think of it as a from me to you little diary entry. So here we start with the first month...

January 2016...

Like every year people start preparing for January in December, thinking of their new years resolutions, things they would like to change from one year to another and so on, you know the drill. This always seems exciting with 'new year, new me' and all that but why should it be a new you? Why do you have to think changing yourself completely is a great thing? This always leads to panic and false expectations. With setting your expectations too high it's always going to leave a blue feeling inside you when the new year comes in and you realise you had wanted to change your life so drastically, this is why so many people struggle with their new years resolutions and cave in. It is good to have a view of what you want to do in the future but if you pile too much onto that view its going to weigh you down and you will find it harder to succeed. Set yourself small goals instead, something that isn't too daunting and that you know you can reach. This could be you would like to shift that Christmas 'fluff' you put on by going to the gym, being active is always great but remember you have all year to do it and reach your goal. If you start something new all guns blazing it will be too much whereas if you take it step at a time and introduce it into your life steadily it will be a lot more rewarding, in my opinion anyway. But I believe that applies to anything. Would you jump into a swimming pool at the deep end straight away rather than build yourself up from the shallow end if you couldn't swim?

Instead of signing yourself up for something for the WHOLE year why not take it a month at a time? A new goal each month is exciting and if one month you do something you really want to carry on, then do that...but don't give yourself the pressure from the get go dedicating your year to it straight away. Think if you tried something new each month how many things you could look back on and be proud of yourself for completing at the end of the year!

My goal for January was to start my blogging journey, I'm taking it in baby steps, not thinking about the months ahead or where I want to be at in a year because even if I work my derrière off to reach that goal and get to the end of the year and I haven't accomplished it I'm going to be feeling like a failure and will have stressed myself out about it in the process so one step at a time is where I want to go with it. I want to enjoy it and not feel the pressure to hit certain targets in a specific amount of time and I am enjoying it so much already and I have had incredible support, so thank you to everyone that reads my posts!

January doesn't just have the 'life changing' decision stress it also has a lot of other factors in it. Let's face it, most people are poor when January comes around, you spent your wage before christmas buying gifts and preparing for it then the next wage celebrating christmas and smashing through those christmas sales, it's always a tough one but a month can fly by, and if you have enough money to eat and simple things like that then you're a lot more fortunate than some people across the world (sad thought, sorry!) Did you know January also holds the most separations and divorces in relationships? Another really sad thought, maybe it's the stress that gets to people in this month or people are 'cleaning out their closet' for the new year, either way it isn't pleasant and another struggle of January but on the inside of that personal relationship, this might be a positive for someone so always look on the bright side (of life do dooo do dooo). One final January problem (sorry to be the bearer of bad news) is it holds the 'most depressing day of the year'...and it falls on the 19th for 2016. It is named 'Blue Monday' and is said to be a mix of debt levels, bad weather, divorce rates and going back to work after a big break. All so negative, I know, but sometimes you have to look at the negatives and take a step back and see they most probably don't all effect you majorly and it isn't going to be that way forever so I should be thankful and look at the positives of this month. And while you're reading this the month is nearly over and you've made it through so give yourself a pat on the back!

January isn't all bad news though (always deliver the bad before the good) it is National Thank You Month! So look back at the month and see what you're thankful for. It could be your friends, that lady who held a lift door open for you the other day when you were in a rush, it could be your health, your happiness...anything you think you should be thankful for let that outweigh the negatives of the month!

I hope this post doesn't seem super negative and comes across more as an eye opener and gets you thinking about what is necessary and what is not...I'm not a negative nancy I pinky swear!

A new year doesn't mean a new YOU, it means a new year for opportunities, adventures, to meet new people, dip into different cultures and wherever you let it take you. It's really anything you want it to be but don't change who you are for it, have fun with it and make it the happiest year you possibly can. Try to beat the stress, don't let it weigh you down, start the year with a fresh mind and positive attitude-don't let the January blues get to you! Here's a smiling cat to start you off! I hope you have a wonderful weekend...

If you made it to the end, thank you, gold star for you!

Asos...

In December I basically spent that months wage on Asos, whether it be clothes for myself or for other people I must have made about 5 separate orders over the space of 3 weeks, but how can you resist when the sales have been THAT good this year huh?! This is one outfit that I bought from there. It was a little out of my comfort zone as I have never worn or owned a pair of culottes before as I didn't think they would suit my body shape, but after trying them on and styling them into this outfit I fell slightly in love.  These are made from a really lightweight and soft material ( note to everyone, wrap up with other layers because I froze to death in them) and are so comfy and easy to wear. I can't say I will be stocking up on culottes as I'm still not their biggest fan of them on myself, however I really do like this certain pair. I wore two other Asos items with them but kept it very simple and minimal with the only real details being the two buckle belt and then grid pattern on the pants (or as some of you like to call them, trousers). The sleeveless turtle neck top is so easy to tuck into things like this or like I have throughout the rest of December, worn it underneath jumpers so you just have the turtle neck detail showing. It is very soft and clings nicely to the body which keeps in the warmth in these winter months!

Along with this outfit I slipped on one of my favourite pairs of boots. They are the Cheap Monday Tractor Boot, I originally got these from Urban Outfitters and they seem to be out of stock everywhere now (i did get them a few months ago) but I have linked them below just incase they come back in stock for you! They are honestly one of the comfiest pair of boots I have owned and go with literally everything! I have listed below all of the items but unfortunalty some are out of stock, but just incase they stock some more I'll keep the links there!

Makeup Revolution...

I think I have a new makeup brand that is in my top 5! I'm pretty sure most of you will have heard of Makeup Revolution and I had also, but I had never tried them myself properly. After my brothers beautiful girlfriend did my makeup the other night and used these palettes I had to go and buy them and I am shocked with how much I love them! They are such good prices also so they're easily affordable. I've never been one to play around with eyeshadows but having these has made me want to experiment more and more! All of them are super pigmented and such a lovely mix of colours and shades! One thing I've always wanted to try was coloured eyebrows and when I saw the turquoise shade in one of the palettes it was the perfect excuse! Above is my look I created using all 4 of the items listed below.

Salvation Palette Pleasuredome
Never ever did I think I'd be buying something that has such bright colours but here I am, and I love it. I can't imagine ever using the pink/purple shade as it would clash with my hair but it does look beautiful! My favourites on this palette are Sell It By The Hour and You Really Can't Afford MeThese are the two I used on my eyebrows, I used the lighter one all over then the darker at the ends then I topped it off with some old black mascara over the top like I usually do after finishing my eyebrows just to make the hairs more apparent.  Buy Here -£4

Salvation Palette Waiting
This is a classic one that I feel everybody should own is it has such beautiful everyday shades. I used this palette on my eyes starting off with We Love You all over as a base and in the inner of my eye to give it a little highlight, then I went in with Scary Conversation which I LOVE it is a gold shade but it isn't too strong so it gives a really nice shimmer to your eye, I also used this under my eye. Next up I blended in a little bit of Shut My Eyes and Stupid H... and finished it off with Life is Short in the outer corners and slightly underneath my waterline on the bottom. Buy Here -£4

Ultra Contour Palette
For a contour palette this is pretty good for the price you're paying. I have only really used two shades on this, the second along on the top line which reminds me of banana powder. I used this under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose and on my forehead over where I had used my lighter cream colour when contour and highlighting. The second shade I used is the second along on the bottom line, you can't really see on the photo but this isn't too bronzed it has more of a grey tone which is good for creating the shadows. I used this to contour my cheeks, nose and forehead. I did use a different branded contour palette along with this as I like to use different shades to build up the look and the other ones in this palette just didn't look right with my skin but I would still recommend buying it as you get two lovely highlighters included on the right.  Buy Here -£8

Blush Palette Golden Sugar
I've never really been one for blush but I LOVE this palette. The 4 shades I have been using are the top left, and the first three on the bottom row. I use them all built up for highlighting my cheek bones and my nose and the top left colour is extremely pigmented so you have to be careful not to apply too much! I applied them with my Spectrum Collections fan brush which lets just the right amount of product go onto your face! I would highly recommend this as it has such a variation of colours and for £6 you're getting an incredible deal!
Buy Here -£6

Have you got any favourites from Makeup Revolution?! If so I'd love to hear your recommendations as I want to try more from this brand!

Inspiration for my eyebrows came from the beautiful Megan and Erika!

Stripes...

I recently was lucky enough to spend Christmas at home in the north with my family, I had the best week and got to catch up with lots of old friends which was lovely! This is the outfit I chose to travel back to London in. It's comfort factors were tested when my already 3 hour train was delayed whilst on it by two hours making it a 5 hour journey but I stayed very comfortable the whole way and while we were stopped for the two hours and everyone got chatty I received a few compliments on this outfit so here goes...

I started off with this long sleeve crop from H&M. I would never ever wear this alone but on some people it would look great! I wore this as a base to keep me warm underneath my next layer and to add a little more detailing to the heavily black outfit. I really like the neck on this top as its quite baggy and subtle, it doesn't go to high up the neck and choke you like some do!

I originally bought this as a top from ASOS but when it got delivered I realised I had ordered the wrong size and because I'm a short anyway it came down to my knees so I decided to wear it as a dress and I'm glad with the outcome of it! I usually wear quite tight things around the waist so it was nice to have something so easy and flowing for once, especially as I had such a long journey ahead!

I then wore some fishnet tights with this as I couldn't dare go fully bare leg and the fishnets are a nice, edgy touch, these also from ASOS. On my feet I wore my Vagabond Norah boots and flung on a leather jacket to keep me warm!

Mermaid bath- Mini Lush Haul...

Did anybody else shop the Lush sales online? If so how long did you wait in that crazy queue?! Never ever when I have shopped sales have I had to wait in a queue on the internet, until the Lush Christmas sales happened. I clicked on the website to find I was over 100,000 waiting in the queue and the estimated time was over 4 hours. I wanted to nab some sale items as who doesn't love a mermaid looking bath and for half price I just couldn't resist. I fell asleep before my time in the queue came however when I clicked on in the morning the queueing system had gone and I could happily shop away so heres a mini haul of what I ordered...

I received a HUGE cardboard box and from the moment of handling it from the delivery man the scent was soooooooo good. Inside I had this beautiful christmas themed box which had 10 bath bombs in and I also purchased some others on their own. I have used a few already but here are the ones I have left.

The list included:

The experimenter
Think Pink
Luxury Lush Pud
Frozen
Yog Nog
The Magic Of Christmas
Cinders
Father Christmas
Butterbear- way to cute to watch dissolve
Avobath
Ingergalactic- FAVE
Candy Mountain

And finally my ultimate favourite...
Golden Wonder

This is pictured in my bath picture above and it is up there with one of my most favourites ever. I love how its like a little surprise as the inside is blue and green and gave me the most mermazing bath (see what I did there) that matched the colour of my hair! The things I love about lush bath bombs are not only do they make you feel like a mermaid and the scents are amazing, my skin always feels so so good after using them. Having a nice hot bath is my favourite way to unwind. Do you have a certain way you like to relax...I'd love to hear about it!

Current top 10 favourite creatives - Instagram edition...

Spreading the love!
There are so many creative people out there that deserve to be noticed for their unique and beautiful ideas, I love nothing more than scrolling through instagram and seeing all of their work. Whether they are photographers, authors, tattooists, makeup artists, bloggers, designers, illustrators or artists, there is creativity everywhere and we should feel so lucky that we get to see this daily. I couldn't list every single one as there are so many I love, I think I will introduce this every so often with new people I have stumbled upon, so here are my top 10 for now ( pre warning if you're young some of them aren't quite PG but I've tried to pick the most appropriate images)...

Matthew Comer
Matthew is a photographer and is also the founder and editor-in-chief of a magazine called Off The Rails. His work really captures the moment with a raw feel compared to a heavy edited look and he shows the female body in such a beautiful way, this is one of the things that makes his photographs catch my eye. The magazine he is a founder of is brilliant! I purchased the digital version of the first issue and it is jam packed with really cool images with many of them telling a story through the pictures. Even though the magazine is fairly new it is extremely popular already and the reason for this is because it has such inspiring content inside, be sure to check it out! Links to his individual instagram and the magazines are below...

Haris Nukem
Haris' photography caught my eye because of how different it is. With a distinctive style which has an urban feel to it highlighting the features of mostly tattooed people his work is a pleasure to look at. It really stands out with a slight grungey yet colourful and clean look to it and they always look very chilled which gives it such a natural vibe. All of his shoots vary, my favourite shots of his are the ones in bath tubs that are usually in clouded water which makes the models features stand out incredibly. Haris is one to watch as his work is being recognised more and more and each time people are falling in love, which is clear to see why.
Jordan Green
Jordan is a northern photographer based in London but in 2015 he travelled around the world a hell of a lot for shoots and touring with musicians. His work ranges from shooting beautiful ladies in all different styles to campaigns and many more. One of his most recent campaign shoots was for Footasylum which you can see his images for this in store windows nationwide. With such a wide range of skills in his photography styles it obvious why Jordan is such a favourite and on top of that he is one of the loveliest guys I know!

Jack Ede
Jack's work captivated me from the very first moment of seeing it. This boy has insane skills when it comes to drawing and blows me away each and every time! Jack is also currently a tattoo apprentice for Iron & Ink which is based in Denmark. Every single one of his drawings has outstanding detail and you can be tricked into easily thinking they're photographs, not drawings. His work has been noticed by so many people including the one and only Mark Wahlberg who reposted a portrait he had made of him, which again was amazing. To have this much talent at a young age amazes me and Jack is going to go really really far which is what he deserves, and more.

Izzy Garcia
Izzy's work was brought to my attention by someone I follow on Instagram reposting a drawing and I instantly fell in love. All the drawings are usually of a pinup style that look  sultry yet elegant and glamorous. The detailing is simple yet so so SO effective and I love it every time a new one pops up on my feed!

Keely Elle
Keely's work had been something I had been following for a little while on Instagram and then one day I got a notification that I had been tagged in one of her photos and when I clicked on it was an illustration of me! I was so happy because her work was something I had loved and to have one based on myself made me feel so privileged. On her instagram you can see the process she goes through to create her pieces from start to finish and I am amazed each time. They are so fun, colourful and bold! I could not believe it when I found out Keeley is only 18 as to have the skills and knowledge to do what she does, and she does it extremely well, was very impressive. I am loving watching her work and her followers grow and she is one person that I don't think gets enough credit and recognition for the masterpieces she produces.

Emily Alice Johnston
Emily's a tattooist at Into You Tattoo in London. I really love her style of tattooing, its simple and gets straight to the point without having to have lots of detail in them. A lot of them are fun little drawings with clean lines which in my opinion makes them dainty and just look lovely on the skin. They're something really different with a sassy feel to them. My personal favourites are the ones I have seen her do of just a ladies mouth. Be sure to check out her instagram to see more of her work as I can't give it enough credit without attaching lots of pictures!

Oh Abi Oh
Abi (what a great name) is currently in her first year of being a tattooist at The Interbellum in Essex. I have followed Abi for quite sometime now and watched her work grow from the very beginning and her skills have expanded so quickly to such a great quality! Her tattoos range through all different styles from mandalas to more classic styles and each one is as brilliant as the other. Not only is she a great tattooist who is passionate about her work she is a really lovely and beautiful girl who deserves all the credit in the world! She has worked really hard as you will see on her instagram and this has really payed off as she is great! I can't wait for the day I will have some of her art work on me forever!

Jade Chanel
Jade, where do I start with Jade?! Not only is she incredibly beautiful, her work is on the same level of beauty. From the very first day I stumbled upon one of her pieces that was it, I was in love! Her work is very different to a lot of tattooists I have seen out there, I'd describe them as clean, feminine an delicate. Jade mostly does black and grey tattoos with a lot of intricate detailing which usually contains dot work...which is a favourite of mine! There hasn't been a tattoo or drawing that she has created that I haven't been head over heels in love with. Jade's work is done in Lowrider Tattoo London which also has a lot of other talented artists working there. She also sells prints of hers which I really want to get my hands on to frame and put on my wall as they're just so beautiful. This girls work really is something amazing and someone I think everyone should be following!

Amber Dean
Amber Dean is an American make up artist living in Barcelona but she's always travelling around the world with her job and I had the pleasure of meeting and working with her when she was in London as being her face model for a masterclass her and Jamie Genevieve held. Amber is a natural beauty who knows just how to create a masterpiece with someones face and makeup. Her work is very colourful and bold on the eyes and I just love it! I was blown away after she did my makeup and that continues each time she updates Instagram with a new post. I would highly recommend attending one of her masterclasses if you're passionate about makeup or want to learn more as they're so much fun and I came away with a lot of new knowledge from the London one. The masterclasses are held all the time and to find details head over to her Instagram and keep your eye out for the next one!

I really hope you enjoyed this post and feel inspired by them just like I do each time I see all their work! I have such a huge list of creatives I love so keep your eyes out for the next feature on this! Also, if you have any creative people you love to follow on instagram comment below or tag me in their work as I LOVE finding new people to admire.

Have a lovely day!

My go to daily makeup look....

Now I'm no makeup artist but I frequently receive questions on Instagram regarding my makeup so here goes, this is what look I would go for most days. It's a very simple look with the main focus being the skin and not really the eyes, truth is I'm rubbish at experimenting with eye looks but thats something I'd like to change! I do all of my make up in this ring light mirror from No7, it's my saviour!

First I start off with applying moisturiser all over my face, I used Nivea-Soft it comes in a really big pot and always leaves my skin feeling lovely. Next up I apply primer and today I chose Rimmel stay matte primer. This gives me a nice even base all over but I wouldn't recommend it if you're having a dry skin day as it won't sit very well!

I then apply my foundation all over, I used a mixture of Rimmel match perfection and Mac Studio fix liquid to even out the colour. I apply this all over my face leaving a triangle under my eyes blank as I don't like too much product there and I save this space for only concealer, I apply my foundation and also my concealer with a damp beauty blender as I find it makes the foundation sit on my face better. I then used Rimmel match perfect 2in1 concealer and highlighter under my eyes, the bridge of my nose and a tiny triangle on my fore head. Once this is all blended in I set these places with Rimmel transparent powder and I bake it under my eyes. I do this by leaving a thick layer on for a little while, as you can see above, then I softly dab away the excess with a beauty blender ( I'm a big fan of them can you tell?!)

After this I usually contour, well actually I do this while my powder is baking but hey ho. I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour powder kit in Tan to Deep, I apply a mixture of the colours depending on how strong I want my contour to go and I just wing it , I don't follow specific colour choices each time I just do it until I'm happy with the outcome. I contour my cheeks, my nose and my forehead. After this I do my brows which are completed above. I have recently started using the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz in Medium Brown, I really love the natural look this gives my eyebrows. I then apply a clear mascara all over my brows to keep them in place then sometimes if I haven't dyed them in a while I will use an old black mascara that has hardly any left in it and gently brush my hairs with it, it only picks up the tiniest amount of product and doesn't make your eyebrows look black, it just makes the hairs more apparent (sounds crazy, but try it!)

I then highlight, I have used Makeup Academy Shimmer Highlighter in a pink shade ( I can't find the name for it) I apply this on my cheeks above my contour, on my cupids bow, on my brow bone and on the very tip of my nose. Next up, lips! Today I have used Max Factor colour elixir lip liner in Brown n Bold to line my lips and fill in the outsides then I have Mac cremesheen in Modesty over the top.

On my eyes I just used a cheap shimmery white shadow (not sure on the brand at all) just on the inner of my eye to give it a little highlight and I used a burgundy colour eyeshadow just on the outer of my lid and blended it in, I literally only use the tiniest amount! Then finally, mascara! I used my all time favourite...Max Factor- Masterpiece Transform. I always get asked which mascara I use and its this one each and every single time, it really does transform your eyelashes like it says in the title no matter how short or long they are!

I haven't listed the products as a lot of them I have used I can't find online and I plan to go more in depth doing posts on my eyebrows, contour and blah blah individually with a step by step process so I will link the details then! If you like the look of it I hope you got a tip or two from this, like I said I'm no makeup artist this is just how I enjoy doing my makeup..and if you have any tips or things for me to try I'd love to hear!
